There's a higher output stock version of the 383 (scorpion).
It's carburated, runs on 91 octane only, rev limits upto 6000rpm, and is 400hp at the crank!
Damn...

I believe the "Scorpion" was discontinued a couple years ago. It was a bonifide hi performance engine.

See michicanmotorz.com.
$12,500 USD fully dressed and ready to drop in (?).
I've not contacted them for confirmation.

That's interesting. A few years back it was supposed to be obsoleted. Obviously not. Really nice engine but nasty price. RPM band really only suited for hi performace. Thanks for the info.

I think the "Scorpion" is fuel injected:

Again from Merc literature:

383 Stroker Scorpion Bravo Engine Only. 400 HP at 6000 RPM, 383 Cubic Inch Stroker Fully Dressed Marine Engine. Engine Features: Special Scorpion Graphics, Tunnel Ram Intake Manifold with Multi-Port Fuel Injection using Cool Fuel II, Stainless Steel Marine Exhaust Headers Feature Polished Ceramic Coating, 4340 Forged Steel Crankshaft, High-Lift Billet Steel Camshaft, High-Flow Cast Iron Cylinder Heads, Stainless Steel Valves, 9.6:1 Forged Pistons, and 1.6:1 Roller Rocker Arms. Runs on 91 Octane fuel. 400 HP Remanufactured Sterndrive Engine
